Clear Skin with Essential Oils

Many people around the world suffer with acne. It seems to be a more common problem amongst youth. Perhaps that is because they have yet to learn how to best deal with acne. If you or someone you love suffers with acne, though, essential oils can help.

One of the best essential oils to use on acne is tea tree oil. This oil has antiseptic and antifungal properties, and has been used as an antimicrobial agent for many years to help clear acne on the skin. Recently, research was done using 100 participants to study the effects of tea tree oil on acne. It was shown that tea tree oil was just as effective on acne as benzoyl peroxide lotion.

Another great oil to use for acne is sandalwood. This oil has been shown to stop bacteria growth that is associated with acne. Sandalwood essential oil has a component in it that helps promote antifungal and antibacterial activity. The same component is also found in other essential oils such as ylang ylang, palmarosa, and jasmine oils. Each of these oils can effectively fight against acne.

To make your own essential oil acne wash, start with an unscented face or body wash, then add up to 5% of the variety of essential oils listed above. To make an acne gel, you can add 5% of the essential oils to a base of pure aloe vera gel.

Never use these essential oils around your eyes. Also, keep in mind that tea tree oil is used in many different products, and the more you are exposed to it, the more you risk being sensitized to it. This can be the case with any of the oils, so it is best to use blends with different oil mixtures so you are getting the maximum effect from the essential oils.
